CTT provided structural engineering services to Sonoco
Products Company for the implementation of the MACT-II chemical recovery
project. The design of the structural steel frame, shown above during
construction, included the support of the 150,000 pound oxidizer (vertical
piece of equipment at left of photo), the conditioning chamber, the HRU, an
economizer, and exiting ductwork.
The project consisted of approximately 124 tons of structural
steel, designed to withstand seismic loads per the 2000 International
Building Code. The top floor consists of metal bar grating designed to 250
PSF. The roof design includes a 5-ton bridge crane, cantilevered out of the
building utilizing metal sided doors for access. Foundations included the
design of approximately 100 driven steel H-piles. The north side of the
project included the design for a 4 cell baghouse, 75 foot cantilevered
stack, ID fan and supporting ductwork.
