provided complete engineering design services for the USACE - Wilmington
District to produce contract documents, plans and specifications for beach
renourishment & maintenance dredging of Masonboro Inlet (between
Wrightsville Beach and Masonboro Island) and Carolina Beach Inlet (between
Masonboro Island and Carolina Beach), primarily to obtain borrow material
for renourishment projects. Dredge material from each of the inlets was used
for beach renourishment projects consisting of a sand bypassing project on
the northern end of Masonboro Island, and replacement of the eroded beach
berm and dune as part of the USACE’s storm damage reduction projects on the
southern end of Wrightsville Beach and the northern end of Carolina Beach.
Design services included analysis and quantity computations of pre- and
post-dredging depths, dredge volumes, beach volumes & profiles, engineering
design, cost estimates for maintenance dredging, preparation of technical
specifications and contract documents, and meetings with the USACE.
