CTT provided
full design services for Structural and Civil Engineering for
Phase I, II & III additions to the FBC Activity Center Building, including
all site permitting. Phase I consisted of the design of a two-story, 21,000
SF addition against the front of the existing lower building. Phase II
consisted of a one-story, approximately 1,500 SF kitchen addition on the
rear of the lower building. Phase III consisted of a 15,650 SF gymnasium
addition with stage against the northern side of the existing gymnasium and
a single-story, 2,400 SF atrium vestibule addition. A depressed stage was
included in the activity center with a floor elevation and adjacent utility
rooms approximately six feet below the outside ground elevation.
Civil site design included the design of the wet detention
pond sized to treat runoff from the ultimate build out (Phase 3). Design
also included sole-design responsibility of the parking layout, site grading
and utilities. Parking layout included analysis to accommodate two large
church buses through the parking lot and parking for the buses as well. To
keep the depressed stage dry, a foundation drain system was designed and
installed around the building to drain into a wet well and pump. The pump
was designed with battery backup, so it will continue to operate during a
power outage. CTT coordinated with The City of Wilmington to incorporate a
multi-use hike/bike path into the project. The City will later connect it
to the City-wide multi-use path. CTT obtained approvals from City Technical
Review Committee (TRC), City Water/Sewer, City Stormwater, State Stormwater,
and County Erosion Control.
