CTT provided civil site design for this parking garage as part of the
northern downtown revitalization effort in Wilmington, NC. The project
consisted of site grading for the ground floor and outside landscaped areas,
new utility connections, and realignment of the Front Street and Second
Street intersection. Traffic lane and parallel parking spaces were also
reconfigured on Second and Brunswick Streets as a requirement of this
project. Design of traffic control for closing Second Street was included.
Stormwater was collected in inlets on the top floor and piped
down below the ground floor to be infiltrated via high density polyethylene
domed storage units encased in #4 stone. To satisfy City Storm Water
Regulations, the two and ten year storm events were attenuated to
predevelopment (wooded) flow rates. The State Storm Water regulations were
satisfied by storing the first two inches of rainfall. Stormwater in excess
of these design storms bypass the infiltration system and flows into the
City’s storm drain network in Front Street. Approvals from the City
Technical Review Committee (TRC), State Stormwater, and State Erosion
Control were obtained for this project.
